2 Notes from the Editor…
Latin may be a “dead” language. But what about Roman Numerals? They are used to identify each Volume of CSCL's “Canadian Leathercraft”. The last issue, this editor published was Summer 2012, Volume LVV (60) No. 4. Since the beginning of the
Newsletter, in 1951, each Volume has had 4 issues per year. Continuing the numbering system seemed logical. However, something didn't look quite right when I started work on the Autumn 2012 edition, the 61st volume - should it be LVVI? No, it's LXI! Thank goodness for Google!
Newsletters from the early 50's, to date, have continued to provide members with information about their organization, as well as leather crafting tips and projects. CSCL is one the oldest leather crafting guilds in Canada, something we all should be proud of.
Some members have complete sets of the “Bulletins” as the Newsletters were often called, and have within their pages, the history of CSCL and articles by legendary members. As we are now in the 21st century, the Newsletter still looks to our members to share their crafting tips, triumphs, and expertise.
CSCL is having an Exhibition starting in January 2013, and we want YOU to participate, see the details in this issue.
Be sure to read about our CSCL Fellow, Carol McLean who recently received a prestigious Award.
A special CSCL Workshop will precede the Opening of Leather 2013 -CREATIVE
VERSATILITY, make a day of it -see page 2.

Recipient of the 2012 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award
Carol McLean, daughter Janet, and husband, Gus
Carol McLean, Fellow of the Canadian Society for Creative Leathercraft is an extraordinary and beautiful person. She has been part of CSCL for many years, teaching, sharing and excelling in all things leather. She has taught Leather Craft classes, juried CSCL Annuals and Exhibitions, sat on the CSCL Executive Council, and contributed articles to the Newsletter. Her leather articles are precise, superbly crafted, and beautifully original.
Dorothy McPherson nominated Carol for the Diamond Jubilee Medal and she was awarded one of the 30 medals given out in Oxford County for their Community involvement. The medals were presented by David McKenzie, Member of
Parliament, Oxford, on November 10, 2012 at the Woodstock Quality Hotel.
Carol's was able to invite four guests to her presentation. I was privileged to attend, along with Janet and Gus McLean, and Anne Thomas who is the current President of the Oxford Quilters Guilt. Carol is a magnificent quilter and teacher who is known locally, across Canada, and beyond.
With her skilled expertise in Leather Craft and an exemplary career in Quilting, Carol McLean is a most deserving recipient of the 2012 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award.
Congratulations Carol!
