2 Notes from the Editor…
January is usually a month to recover from the festivities of December and kick start those New Year’s resolutions. However, 2013 brought CSCL members and friends an exciting time – the opening of the CSCL Exhibition Leather 2013 – CREATIVE
VERSATILITY and a busy workshop/demonstration on the same day.
Fortunately, the unpredictable Ontario weather cooperated on both January 5th for judging and 12th for the Opening, bringing virtually no snow and milder temperatures. Read about the Opening and Award Presentations for CSCL showed the public what can be created with a piece of leather, some tools and the talent and skill of CSCL crafters.
Our thoughts for good health and speedy recovery go out to David McPherson who because of health concerns missed the above judging and opening. David had sent his entries early, and his articles made it into the show.
Leather - 2013 gives CSCL an opportunity to showcase not only contemporary leather art but display some of the classic pieces from the past. Thanks to the generosity of Paul Kitchener, visitors to the Gallery, also have a chance to see some of the instructional panels created in the early days of CSCL by Charter Member, Robert Muma. This priceless panels show techniques, leathers, patterns, and colours that still inspire CSCL members.
The Exhibition continues until March 2, 2013 at the Woodstock Art Gallery. Hours and directions to the Gallery at www.woodstockartgallery.ca

4 Leather Lacing and Stitching Workshop & Demonstration
Lauch with Brian Holahan, Bob Richardson, and Paul Kitchener
About 16 people laughed, laced, and stitched away the afternoon of January 12th! Although scheduled only to about 1:30pm, the workshop broke away for the Exhibition Opening and Awards Presentation and then went back to work until 4:00pm.The Woodstock Art Gallery staff had provided a location with great space and light that Lauch Harrison ACSCL and Sean Dalgetty FCSCL took full advantage of.
Sean Dalgetty with Lauren McPherson No Rob! That’s NOT what it’s for!
When Sean took over, after the class had finished their Lace Covered Belt Buckle, he demonstrated Leather Stitching discussing the finer techniques that produced a professional looking article. The class then stitched their own Buckle End of a Belt. Sean then helped attendees discover the complexity of stitching a Round Box,

Remove one of the beaters from an electric hand mixer. Fasten a square of sheepskin over the beater with an elastic band. This makes an excellent buffer.
