CSCL 73rd Annual General Meeting
Visitor’s Inn, Hamilton — June 2 & 3, 2023.
The annual weekend commenced with table display set-ups on Friday morning. Society branches from Hamilton, Mississauga, Norland and Members-at-Large were represented by 14 people. The meeting room was convivial and the table space was plentiful; with help from the branches the room was set up by volunteers. The Fellows took to judging the entries starting at 7pm.
Saturday’s business meeting start time was postponed to mid-afternoon. The new slate was acclaimed and several members put their names forward to take positions on the Executive Committee. The lack of attendees and Executive Committee members is very worrisome. A committee headed by Barry Taylor was struck to probe the viability of the Society and look to an orderly closure if it is needed; Barry will report back in the Fall.
Special thanks to Kim Winchester for setting up the silent auction for the Edith Melchior-Hawkins estate. It was a good send-off and a tip of the hat to CSCL skills from the past.
The two-day workshop, a Tack Lasted Box using donated wood forms, was attended by 8 members; the longer time frame got some projects completed. Groups went to visit Tundra Leather on King Street as the workshop continued. The ticket sales for white elephant and silent auction were a success.
The dinner was an excellent restaurant-style meal serving 15 people. We returned to the meeting room to award the ribbons for Craftsmanship and Salon, and category prizes were handed out (see Fellows Judging Report).
The 73rd Annual General Meeting weekend was a limited success, bringing together our members and contributing a small loss to the Society (see Financial Report).
2023 AGM Financial Report
The financial report for the 2023 Annual General Meeting shows a loss of $5. Hamilton will donate the $5 to the Society.
Income: Annual Subscriptions $885.00; Banquet $450.00; Tour $45.00; Workshop $160.00; Cash $185.00. Total income $1,725.00.
Expenses: Workshop Material $265.35; Meeting room $591.74; Friday Break $40.73; Banquet $693.48; Tip to wait staff $138.70. Total expenses $1,730.00. Total profit/loss −$5.00.
