Lorna Brigden

← People of the Society · on record 1975

Everything the Society’s own records say of Lorna Brigden — the offices held, the standings conferred, and the awards won — gathered on one page. Where the records are silent, so is this one.

In memoriam · 13 November 1988

A Life Member of the Society (honoured 1975 “in appreciation of her many years of services”) and, by profession, a lawyer — Past International President of the Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity and Past President of the University College Alumnae Association. The Fall 1988 obituary (p. 3) credits her legal expertise with the Society's Constitution and By-Laws. Died 13 November 1988, five weeks before her husband Gel, in her 91st year, after a 60th wedding anniversary the previous March.

From Fall 1988, page 3.

Also recorded as Mrs. G.G. Brigden, Mrs. Gel Brigden

Honours

  • Life Membership 1975
Presented at the 25th Annual Meeting by Miss Bea Austin “in appreciation of her many years of services to C.S.C.L.”; accepted by her husband Gel. The letter handed to her at the presentation, reprinted in the Fall 1975 newsletter (p7), reads in part: “I am delighted to be in the position to hand you this token of our esteem to-day as Honorary Life Member. Right from the beginning of the C.S.C.L. you have been part of the backbone in the shadows.” Found, not settled: the letter itself calls the honour an Honorary Life Member, where the Summer 1975 meeting report calls it a Life Membership; both descriptions are kept, unreconciled.
