This page is a biography of Don MacLeod. The Society’s own record of Don MacLeod — the offices held, the standings conferred and the awards won — is on the register page.
Don was born in 1925 and lived his life in the Toronto area. He was employed by Bell Telephone and was an active member of the Cooksville United Church.
Don joined the Mississauga Leather Group in 1983 and was soon a member of the Executive Council. He was President for five years and later co-editor of the Bulletin. (The Society's own papers carry both offices: Mississauga Branch President in 1988–89 and again in 1992–93, and the Society's own President for five consecutive years, 1990–1995, before serving a further year as Past President.) Don was well known for his covered buckles and lacing ponies. He is missed by all.
The Don MacLeod Belt Buckle Award was created in his memory by Paul Kitchener of the Mississauga Branch, presented annually for the best belt buckle; its first recipient, in 2007, was Nancy Durham, FCSCL.
Tribute by Joyce Scruton, printed in Canadian Leathercraft, 2007.
