Mary Whately

← People of the Society · on record 1979

Everything the Society’s own records say of Mary Whately — the offices held, the standings conferred, and the awards won — gathered on one page. Where the records are silent, so is this one.

In memoriam · reported Summer 1989

A Toronto Branch member, wife of Executive member Ralph Whately, with whom she tallied and sorted the C.N.E. sale for years (“the complicated task of tallying all the sales, sorting the work, and seeing that all was returned to owners safely,” Fall 1982) and helped rebuild the Society's C.N.E. booth. She contributed to the newsletter herself, including a review of a book on Stonehenge and prehistoric leatherwork. The Summer 1989 newsletter's Obituaries notice (p. 7) reports her death together with Gel and Lorna Brigden's — already carried in fuller obituaries in the previous Fall issue — as “three Toronto Branch Members,” suggesting this was a later, consolidated notice rather than fresh news of the Brigdens.
