Newsletter — March 1971
Summer Crafts '71 of the School of Design are offered in co-operation with the Sheridan College Continuing Education Division and the Ontario Craft Foundation at Sheridan. College, 1460 South Sheridan Way, Mississauga, Ontario.
The summer courses are planned for practising craftsmen to share an exciting exchange of knowledge and skills a Cost of the Course is: $100.00 per Course Week, including room, board, basic materials and tuition.
$7500 per Course Week less room and board. Ceramics, Glass and Metal are two week courses. Plastics, Leather and Weaving are one week courses.
Ceramics – Instructor Maurice Savoie,
Techniques of clay forming, survey of clay and glazes with experimentation. Specialized firing techniques.
Glass – Instructor Andre Billeci
Basic instruction and experience in off-hand glass blowing.
Plastics – Instructor Harry Hollander.
The properties of resins and plastics. How to modify resins and plastics for particular uses; how to make things of plastic and resins; safe handling of these materials.

Leather - Instructor Frank Tettemer.
Introductory to design and use of leather for accessory items such as pouches, handbags, bands, belts and sandals.
Metal - Instructor Haakon Bakken and William Ottenmiller.
Intermediate and advanced cutting, forming, surface treatment, brazing and soldering in jewelry processes. Hollowware technique and foundry principles.
Weaving - (Non Loom) Instructor Marie Aiken.
Weaving with emphasis on method and technique - Macrame, Sprang, Twined, Knitting, Crochet, Tablet Weaving and introduction to primitive looms.
ANNUAL MEETING
The Annual Meeting of C.S.C.L. will take place April 17 at the Old St. Paul's Church on Dundas Street, Woodstock, Ontario. This Church is Woodstock's oldest church and is of historical interest.
Coffee, registration and display set-up will start the morning off at 9 a.m.
Annual Meeting 10 a.m. to 12 noon
Lunch at the Church Hall 12 to 1 p.m.
Demonstrctions - 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Coffee break - 2:30 to 3 p.m.
Demonstrations - 3 to 5 p.m.
View Displays - 5 to 6 p.m.
Dinner & Speaker - 6 p.m.
IALC meeting will be held after.
The Woman's Editor from the Sentinel Review will attend also Barbara Madren from CKOX Woodstock. Sounds like we are in for a great day so do plan on coming early.

WESTON TROPHY
Presentation of the Weston Trophy has always been one of the outstanding events of the Annual Meeting. All branches are encouraged to participate. See that your branch has five articles at the home of Dorothy and Bob Muma, 118 Hazelton Ave., Toronto by March 26th.
The Weston Trophy and ribbons will be presented to the winning branch at the annual meeting April 17th. Associate AND FELLOW MEMBERSHIP
Entry forms and rules can be obtained by any member wishing to apply for Associate or Fellow membership by writing Clara Cavanagh, 10 Duckworth Street, Barrie. all articles, entry forms and fee should be at the Muma home, 118 Hazelton Ave., Toronto by March 26.
Associate and Fellow certificates will be presented at the annual meeting, Saturday April 17th.
ANNUAL DUES
Greetings to all on behalf of your local membership secretary and your treasurer..It is now time to renew your membership for the year April 1/71 to March 31/72. You can aid your officers if you renew early. Your branch officers will be pleased to receive membership fees for C.S.C.L. and forward a single group list and remittance to the C.S.C.L. membership secretary Mrs. Kay Cloughley.
Having attended to this little matter you can relax and plan your attendance at The Annual Meeting in Woodstock secure in the knowledge that you are a fully paid up member.

Hamilton Weavers Guild 22nd Annual Exhibition to be held April 29 - May 17 at the Art Gallery in Hamilton. The theme this year will be "Colour".
Canadian Ceramics '71 will be held April 2-25 at the Royal Ontario Museum sponsored by the Guild of Potters and the Ontario Museum.
Banff School of Fine Arts will be held July 5-14. Registration closes June 18. For more information write Director, Banff School of Fine Arts, Banff, Alta.
Hockley Valley School of Fine Arts will hold an Artist Work Shop July 4-23. For more information write: Three Schools, 296 Brunswich Ave., Toronto 179, Ontario.
Summer School of Arts will be held at the Georgian College, 401 Duckworth Ave., Barrie, July 5-23. Metal Show will be held March 11-23 at the Learning Resources Centre in Forest Hill. Metalcraft members and pupils of George Brown School will be participating.
On May 1, Toronto Spinners and Weavers will hold their May Tea at Glebe Road Church on Glebe Road. Craft Happenings will be held at Rockhaven Motel, Peterboro on April 3 and 4.
