Kay Cloughley

← People of the Society · on record 1964–1997

Everything the Society’s own records say of Kay Cloughley — the offices held, the standings conferred, and the awards won — gathered on one page. Where the records are silent, so is this one.

In memoriam · spring 1998

One of the original members of the Society's Barrie chapter, which had ceased to exist about six years earlier. She drew the pen sketches of the Weston Trophy entries for the Society's newsletter in 1992 and 1993.

From Summer 1998, page 9.

Also recorded as Kae Cloughley, Kathleen Cloughley, Kay Cloughly, Kay Clougley, Kay Coughley

Certification

  • Associate of the CSCL 1964
The c.1985 list types “Kay Cloughly”, which appears nowhere else in the archive; the Society's newsletters and documents print “Kay Cloughley” 119 times. Corrected here so a search finds her; the scan of the list is unchanged. Corroborated by the more contemporary 1964-spring newsletter (p1), reporting the same 14th Annual Meeting at which the standing was granted: “Two members received Associate standing in C.S.C.L. - Mrs. Kay Cloughley of Barrie, Mrs. Janet Smith of Guelph.”

A Barrie Branch member from the 1960s — its Treasurer in 1964 and later its Secretary — and an Associate of the Society from 1964, she served on the Society's Executive Council and as a Director, and was made a Life Member. She showed two pieces at Leather '82, the Society's exhibition at the City of Brampton Library and Art Gallery, Bramalea, 3 July to 1 August 1982, drew the pen sketches of the Weston Trophy entries for the Society's newsletter in 1992 and 1993, and made a square for the CSCL Leather Quilt. The Society's c. 1985 list of Associates and Fellows prints her “Cloughly, Kay”, and the 1973 Executive masthead “Kay Coughley”. The spring 1970 Executive Council list prints a “Ken Cloughley” at the same Barrie street address; whether that is a misprint for Kay is not settled.

From Fall 1998, page 2; List of Associates and Fellows, c. 1985, page 1; Leather ’82 — exhibition catalogue, Brampton Public Library and Art Gallery, page 4; and Spring 1970, page 6.
