Certification

  • Associate of the CSCL 1985
Certificate of Associate standing presented by Fred Brown, President of the Council of Fellows, at the 35th Annual Meeting, 27 April 1985, alongside Ruth Haig's Fellow standing.
  • Fellow of the CSCL 1987
Presented by Ruth Haig, acting Chairman of the Council of Fellows in Dorothy Muma's absence, at the 37th Annual Meeting, 1987. This is ten years earlier than the register's other Fellow record for her (since 1997, from the 1997 Annual Report's President's Message: "came back as a member and was granted full membership with Fellows standing this year"). Both are contemporary and both are clear on their own page; the two records stand separately. Read together they suggest she left the Society after 1987 and was reinstated to Fellow standing on returning in 1997, but that is not stated on either page — flagged, not decided.
  • Fellow of the CSCL 1997

A member of the Society whose work featured among the standouts on the Annual display tables. Three pieces chosen for the Society’s 1985 Travelling Exhibition, from about sixty entries, by the judges Robert Muma, Paul Williams and Alison Parsons: a covered shoehorn with a braided handle, a cowhide belt with saddle-stitched decoration, and a cowhide-covered canteen. Karla Van Horne showed three pieces at Leather 2000: Fifty Years of Leather Art, the Society’s exhibition in the Grand Hall Gallery of the Woodstock Museum, 466 Dundas St., 20 May to 17 June 2000 (Knife Sheath - Tooled, Natural; Pen Case - Tooled, Natural; Stacked Leather Screwdriver). She wrote some thirty pieces for The Leather Craftsman in 1986–90, six Tandy Doodle Pages, and articles for The Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal in 1995, 2001 and 2025–26, and the book Elements: How to Draw Floral Elements; the 2025–26 articles and the book came after she had left the Society (see Members in print on the Links page).

From Spring 2010, page 2; Fall 1985, page 4; and Leather 2000: Fifty Years of Leather Art — Exhibition Programme, Woodstock Museum, page 3.
