PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

This, the 41st year of C.S.C.L. has had a variety of problems. I had to be away on Business for
about three months; I wish to thank Jack Meharg for sitting in for the meeting that I missed. You did a good job Jack! I also
wish to thank Ruth Haig and Lea Love for all the guidance during this first year. What a pair of friends to have, they are the
greatest!

Despite Ontario's crazy weather patterns, most of the Guild Representatives were able to get through for nearly all
the Executive meetings, to bring us up to date on the various guild activities. A job well done!

The two Co-Editors of the Canadian Leathercraft, Lois MacPherson and Betsy Rennie started by issuing us a ultimatum - no articles no bulletins. It must
have stirred some people up because they have had four very successful bulletins this year. Again, Well done Girls.

Our membership is down again this year in almost every Branch. We have teacher to teach the newcomers and we have projects going on
in all the branches; some are big and others small, all beautiful pieces of leather work. How do we attract the younger people?
Not necessarily the under 20 group, although there is hope that they will return after a few years if they have done leather.
Where are the 25 - 50 groups; we have some in each Branches' area, but not living up to become members. Why Not? Is the craft
too expensive? No. Other crafts cost more to maintain and buy supplies. We as a group and as individuals will have to be the
contact persons. Anyone who shows an interest, talk to them, be prepared to teach and show these people how they can get into
the Leather Craft. As a hobby or even as work to them in this day and age. The new Leather hobbyist/worker are out there, we
have to get take them by the hand and steer them to the Branches and C.S.C.L. I think our project for 1991-1992 should be "Each
one, Teach one". New members are out there, lets bring them in now! Lets have the guild grow!

Don Macleod, President 1990-91.

dishonesty. This statement in its present form was prepared by me (Lea Love).

BRANCH REPORTS

HAMILTON:

The Hamilton Branch of the C.S.C.L. met seven times on the second Friday of each month,
between April 1990 and March 1991 at St. Margaret's Anglican Church, Emerson Street, Hamilton, Ontario.

Due to many people's illness, our November meeting was canceled.

The program was as follows:

May - Pot Luck and silent auction.

molded cases by Betsy Rennie.
February - Phase 2 of molded cases by Betsy Rennie and planning for the Annual.

Our programme convenor,
Sharon Beasley continues to promote hands on programs. Also, a great deal of our meetings were devoted to planning the Annual.

Vice President - Ruth Haig
Secretary - Dave Windeyer
Treasurer - Dave McPherson

Respectfully Submitted, Muriel McKnight, President.

MISSISSAUGA

The past year has been one of many changes for the
Mississauga Guild. An advertisement for new members in the Vooksville United Church bulletin met a very limited response, as
did the changing of our meeting nights from Thursday to Monday evenings. Consequently, we are exploring different avenues to
increase our membership, and Thursday has been reinstated as the evening of choice for our meetings.

On the leather front, work
and illness severely decimated the ranks of our active leathercrafters, but we were still able to select a Weston Trophy entry
for the second year in a row. Many of the projects w had originally slated for workshops this year proved to be too
industrious, so it was decided that we will move back to a program in which we focus on new techniques in a small project
format.

Major steps have been taken in preparation for the 1992 Annual, which promises to be an informative and fun event. All
of the demonstrations will be offered in a workshop environment to assist interested parties learn new techniques with hands on
application.

NORLAND

No report available.

TORONTO

Toronto Branch has had a busy
year. Last year we explored the wider world of leather including the manufacturing of shoes, sculpture, and the historical uses
of leather. This year, we decided to focus on aspects of leather that were perhaps more practical for our group.

In September,
Bruce White started our year by running a mini workshop on belt making. A knowledgeable craftsman, all agreed it was a good
start to a new year. October saw René Hackstetter giving a talk on the construction of Photo frames.

In November, Cliff
McTavish came to speak on the subject of colouring leather. He spoke on the theory of colour and gave us a practical
demonstration. In the informal conversation that accompanied his demo, many helpful hints and solutions to various problems
were discussed. It was another valuable meeting. During November, Fred Brown ran a workshop on the manufacture of photo albums.
This to was an unqualified success.

December was the party month. A pot luck supper, good fellowship and cheer, and a sing song
made this a happy time. It pays to have a musician in the group. January and February were to have been Jessie Little's months,
but poor weather forced the cancellation of January's meeting. However, in February Jessie came and spoke about using the Muma
style to decorate leather. She showed us how we might modify tools, and discussed a variety of ways to preserve our embossing.
Again, this was a very useful and informative night.

As I sit and write this, I look forward to some events still to come. Ruth
Haig is coming to do a mini workshop on wallet interiors. Negash, a professional leather designer is coming to speak to us, and
Fred Brown will be showing some of us youngsters the finer points of skiving. There's so much to learn.

What direction will we
take next year? At this point we are unsure, but there has been talk of making next year's meetings take more of a hands on
approach. Only time will tell.

Respectfully Submitted,
Bruce Briar.

WOODSTOCK

Following the 1989 Annual, the Woodstock Branch
members started the planning of two major C.S.C.L. events set for 1990. The Annual meeting for 1990 was held at the end of
April and the Biennial Exhibition on "Leather 90" scheduled for September at the Woodstock Public Art Gallery.

Needless to say,
the small groups of leathercrafters had a busy year. Business meetings were interspersed with workshop demonstrations. "Lino
Cut" designs and napkins rings by Beula Reynolds, ACSCL, along with an interesting method of molding skiver by Edith
Melchoir-Hawkins, FCSCL were shown. 1990 ended with a Christmas

party, hosted by Beula Reynolds.

In 1991 we have looked at some new ideas for fridge magnets or
jewelry demonstrated by Madeleine Mitchell, and then together we made patterns for eye class cases. The 1991-1992 officers for Woodstock CSCL is:
President - Nancy Durham.
Secretary - Madeleine Mitchell
Treasure - Loreen Manuel.

ARCHIVIST'S REPORT

During the course of the past year, a number of additions have been made to
the archives, and some of the gaps filled. But there are still omissions and holes in the collection. The archives will always
accepts new donations, no matter how small or large.

On behalf of the C.S.C.L. I would like to express our appreciation to Ray
Potter for the binding in 3 volumes of the archive's collection of The Bulletin from Vol 1 #1 to Vol XXI #4. These volumes are
on display for your inspection.

Respectfully Submitted,
Kevin Armstrong,
Archivist, C.S.C.L.

LIBRARY REPORT

After two years of
solid activity the C.S.C.L. Larmour Library is catalogued and organized. There are now three lists describing all items in the
catalogue. The first is the Reference Library List, whose contents are stored at 35 McCaul in the O.C.C. Resource Centre.
Second, is the list of circulating books. The third list is a complete inventory of the slide library.

This year marks the end
of term for the present Librarian as other commitments are making their demands on my time. Each Friday I work until 9:00 -
9:30 P.M. and I will be unable to attend the executive meeting. Hopefully one of the Branch Librarians will take over, and
complete the work which still needs to be done.

Two projects which I would like to see completed are the creation of an
inventory of all the trade catalogues which we received by donation from Marg LaChapelle. Thanks Marg for the almost full run
of 20-30 years of Tandy Catalogues! Secondly, a detailed list of the Hamilton Slides needs doing and should be added to the
Larmour Slide Library list.

The circulating Library will require distribution at the Annual when we receive the final box from
Mississauga Branch!

Best wishes for next year!

Respectfully Submitted,
René Hackstetter
