Clarice Packham

← People of the Society · on record 1953–1977

Everything the Society’s own records say of Clarice Packham — the offices held, the standings conferred, and the awards won — gathered on one page. Where the records are silent, so is this one.

In memoriam · July 1991

A Fellow and Life Member, living into her nineties. Co-founder of the Weston Leathercraft Guild with Edith Roscoe and Isabel Hanna, and a charter member of the CSCL on its merger; a glovemaker taught by F. O. Baird, and top judge at the CNE. Her tribute, by Nora Huyck and Gladys Riddell, was printed in the Summer 1992 newsletter.

From Summer 1992, page 8.

Certification

  • Associate of the CSCL 1953
  • Fellow of the CSCL 1955
  • Honorary Fellow of the CSCL 1975
Distinct from her ordinary Fellow standing, since 1955 (see her other row) -- printed as a separate honour, "Honorary Life Fellowship", given at the Society's 25th anniversary.

An early Fellow of the Society renowned as a superb glovemaker, remembered for her generosity to novice members. Dr Larmour's slides bear out her reputation as a glovemaker: gloves, a jewel box, and the gold gloves she showed at the 1955 Assembly. Two of her pieces were chosen for “Ontario Crafts – Leather Today”, the Society’s Centennial travelling exhibition: men's brown gloves and lady's gloves. The Canadian Guild of Crafts (Ontario) selected the articles; the exhibition opened at the Guild Shop on 2 October 1967 and was to travel across Canada during 1968.
